Clemson Football - CYCI #135

I don't think I've mentioned very often, or at all yet, that I'm a Southern girl. I was born, raised, and live in upstate South Carolina.  Besides sweet tea, porch swings, and grits, one of the things that Southerners love most is college football. Now everyone has a favorite team, and in South Carolina, you are typically either a Clemson Tigers fan or a USC Gamecocks fan. Never both, and you pretty much always hate the other...you know, rivalry and all. For me, I love the Clemson Tigers. I know their profile has been raised since they played in the National Championship game earlier this year against Alabama. (And what an amazing game it was!) Clemson did end up losing that game, but just barely, and it made me even more proud to be a fan.

My dad is also a Clemson fan, so I've been watching Clemson football for most of my life. I was a Clemson Tiger for Halloween when I was about 6. My dad painted my face orange and black, and I remember vividly how excruciating it was to remove the paint before bed. We've had that all along, and luckily I started getting into college football about 10 years ago. And really into in the last 5 years. I plan my weekends around when (and whom against) Clemson plays football, and try my best not to miss watching a game.

This week's Can You Case It challenge is Back To School themed, which includes School Pride, and with Clemson football season kicking off this coming Saturday against Auburn, I had to make my dad a card. Clemson colors are orange, white, and purple, and I found these awesome papers and stamps at local scrapbook stores and Clemson merchandise stores.  The card layout is the Papertrey Ink Comic Strip Cover Plate.

I hope you come play along and show us your school pride!

Have a good day.

Purrfect Student - CYCI #134

My niece Lizzy just started back to school, so I wanted to make her a card.  She is in the 5th grade now.  (Boy, how fast they grow up, huh?)  The challenge this week at Can You Case It is a Pet Sketch Challenge.  This worked great because Lizzy is obsessed with animals.  When she was a toddler and even into ages 5 and 6, she would pretend to be different animals.  It made my heart happy for her to love something so much.  For the longest time, she said she was going to be an 'animal doctor' before she learned the word veterinarian.  Then she wanted to be a paleontologist, and most recently has started talking about marine biology.  She's only 10, so we have a long way to go before she really has to decide.

This card was made with the SSS Back to School stamp set.  I stamped and then colored the cat and book with my Copics.  Then I used the SSS Sunkist ink pad, Versamark ink, and a few of the stamps from the set to create the background using a technique from a Jennifer McGuire video.

I love how this card turned out and I hope to see you play along with us this week!

Have a good day.

Explore Nature - CYCI #133

I am a creature of habit, even when it comes to cards.  I pretty much always make an A2 size card using white cardstock as the base and building from there.  Other colored cardstock hardly ever makes it into the lineup, but this week's Can You Case It challenge was to use greens, yellows, and neutrals.  Now I could have gone standard-Kayla with this card, but I wanted to switch it up a bit.  So I made a card using Kraft cardstock and the A Tag For All die by Avery Elle as the base.  The vines are such a pretty die from Simon Says Stamp, called Clustered Leaves.  That die is really where this card started for me.  I wanted to use it by cutting out some green cardstock and layering them in with the vellum die cuts.  Then I found the CAS-ual Fridays Girlfriend stamp set had a great flower stamp and die to tie in the yellow.  It really needed a sentiment, and I found the perfect one in the SSS One With Nature stamp set and cut it out with the MFT Fishtail Flags Stax dies.  I finished the card by gluing it to a 10 inch card base, scored in half.  That allowed the hole in the top of the tag to be open for some jute cord and yellow and white baker's twine.

I hope to see you play along with us at Can You Case It this week!

Have a good day.

Mirror Thanks - CYCI #132

It's Sunday, so time for another Can You Case It challenge, and this week, we have a great sketch challenge! I flipped through my dies and found the SSS Thanks Card die (retired) that matches the sketch so well. I cut it out of Bazzill mirror cardstock in turquoise, and backed it with a piece of silver glitter paper. The die cut was smaller than an A2 sized card, so I placed it on a piece of turquoise cardstock that I embossed with one of the WRMK Next Level Woven Embossing Folders. I finished off the card with a few die cuts of the MFT Fishtail Flags, and some baker's twine from my stash.  I couldn't resist making this card with colors from a past CYCI color challenge.  This blue, turquoise, and lime green combo is still perfection for me!

I hope that you will come play along with this fun sketch challenge at CYCI!

Have a good day.
